Friday Foto Fun 5

Wow, busy week. I've been meaning to post some thoughts on the crash of flight 5191 in my former home of Lexington, KY.

Instead, I'll post another picture.

This weeks Friday Foto is a shot of my daughter that I took at my brother's wedding earlier this summer.

Have a great weekend!

Friday Foto Fun 4

Bottoms up!
Originally uploaded by philputnam.

So here's my 3 day late entry for last Friday. I shot this one while I was in Amarillo last week also. It's one of the cars from the Cadillac Ranch. The official artist page is here. You'd be surprised by how many people stop at this attraction. There were probably 100 people who came and went in the 30 minutes I was there on a Friday morning.

Lost History

Wow, I missed 2 Fridays. The first one I missed I was actually out of town and took this photo, and another one I'll post shortly. So this one counts for 2 weeks ago. Click on the photo to visit my Flickr page.

I added a Geotagging feature to some of my photos, so if you view this in Flickr, you'll be able to see where I stood to take the photo. From the photo, you'd think I was in the boondocks, but note how close it is to development.

Tanks a lot
Originally uploaded by philputnam.

This is a shot of a tank on the most beautiful beach in the world, Flamenco Beach, Culebra PR. A few years ago, there was a lot of commotion about US Navy exercies on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico. Well, before the Navy was there, they were on Culebra Island, Puerto Rico, a couple of miles away. The natives got restless, so they moved the operations to Vieques.

This tank was one of the targets for the Navy maneuvers, but they've never removed it. In the meantime, Flamenco beach is frequently noted as one of the top 10 beaches in the world.

But the tank remains.

And Culebra is one of our favorite places in the world. No resorts, just empty, beautiful beaches. But you've got to work to get there.

How Lomo can you go?

Door Lomo Rev
Originally uploaded by philputnam.

A friend of mine was experimenting with a digital Lomo effect on some of his pictures, so I decided to try on a few. Here's one result. I'm not sure what I think yet. I've got to experiment with more variables, especially on the ones with blue sky. The vignetting seems weird on those. You can see the rest on my Flickr page.

If you've got Photoshop and would like to try the effect yourself, the tutorial is here.

*UPDATE*

I made some adjustments to my technique, so the above picture is revised, as are the other Lomo pics in my Flickr set.

Sparkle
Originally uploaded by philputnam.

I've decided to try and post a picture here at least once a week. Just because. I've got a ton of photos in my library, and this will force me to either keep shooting new material, or look back through my archives.

This is one of my nieces celebrating the 4th of July. Notice the ghost mom hovering around. Creepy.

One of the highlights of our trip to Indiana last month was the chance to see our good friends, D.G and Tiffany Hollums on our way through Cincy. D.G. will always goof off for a camera, so there's a few more where this came from.

D.G.'s blog is here.

My Friend Flickr

I signed up for a free Flickr account earlier this year and never touched it, so I'm giving it a shot right now. I might upgrade to the pro account if I like it. At the very least, it looks to be a nice place to easily share photos with others.

Any Flickr fiends out there who can give a testimonial on it's virtues?

My Flickr page is here.
